The participants were administered two capsules at each meal: green Tea extracts plus 50 mg of caffeine or a placebo – inactive capsule for 6 weeks.

All the participants were put on the weight maintenance diet of about 13% protein, 40% fat and 47% carbohydrates which is considered as the typical Western diet. The men spent 24 hours in the special rooms where the investigators measured their respiration and energy expenditures for three times during the study. Energy expenditure – the number of calories used during the 24 hour period was more than men taking green tea extract than for those taking caffeine and placebo. Evidence was also noticed that men taking the Green Tea extract used more fat calories as compared to those taking the placebo.
